for his maiden voyage through space, shan (victor shan, if it matters to you, and it should) offers good to me, a pair of revelatory dancefloor productions inspired by many a long night and early morning spent at the legendary frankfurt institution robert johnson. a finely-tuned specimen of durable, architectural sampling, the 12” title track runs a rigorous course of breakbeat rhythms and classic chords while a diva’s pleas are made and answered within seven minutes of perfect primetime rave. on the flip, shan churns through metallic stabs and primed drum sequences for the devious “version 1.” shan spent close to four years perfecting “version 1” through various dancefloor demos, no more evident than in the stunning arc of this sought after jam.

‘consistency’, the second lp from the berlin-based techno artist. the 11 track release follows 2014’s ‘en route’ and will be released on heiko laux’s label kanzleramt, a label with which kajioka has worked with closely for over a decade. consistency lp bears all the marks of a kajioka release: a collection of deep, driving, groove-laden and synth-focused cuts. heady grooves which leave little question why ray kajioka is held in such high regard among techno veterans, called upon regularly for remix honours by the the likes of heiko laux, joel mull, pan-pot, elbee bad, alexander kowalski and marc romboy, to name but a few. kajioka’s reputation for faultless production remains consistent on this, his sophomore lp. the full, extended physical release of consistency contains 3 vinyl disks: 2 x 12” lp disks plus a free, bonus 12”.

after a split release with chambray on ben sims’ hardgroove in 2016 greek-producer george tounisidis is set to drop a new 12” for symbolism in november entitled ‘solidarity’. with his first two cuts for the british dj’s imprint picking up support from the likes of dvs1, jackmaster and anthony parasole it’s unsurprising sims has tapped him for a full release on symbolism. since signing, tracks from ‘solidarity’ have also featured in both ben sims’ boiler room and run it red radio shows, resulting in a barrage of requests for release details which tees up the ep nicely. musically, ‘solidarity’ moves between scattered sequences and stabs (‘three clicks left’ & ‘solidarity’), muted hypnotics (‘nekyia’) and fractured acid (‘workers’) while all retaining the distinct sense of movement and dynamism that typifies symbolism releases.

church label boss seb wildblood continues his catalogue with sw004. the release follows wildblood’s much sought after cassette from earlier this year (sw004) which featured three of the four tracks on the record, whilst the new addition doesn’t deviate far from the sw playbook. ‘every body looks good at the restaurant’ offers up meandering sax melodies, warm jazzy pads & soft percussive layers amidst an intriguing monologue.

exactly one year after developer s 5 year anniversary release on modularz which also was also celebrated in a special label night at berlin s premiere techno club berghain back in november 2015. he returns for is next ep named -dispatches from la- developer went to his home city of la over the summer 2016 to play a calendar of shows in the us and to record this ep from his 2nd studio in los angeles. its more of his trademark sequenced based yet hypnotic sound with a bit more of analog gear used for this one. tip

after his ep together with ness, giorgio gigli returns to planet rhythm with another italian collaboration. this time he is joined in the studio by roman talent vsk. whilst gigli is known for his hypnotic productions on labels such as prologue and his own zooloft, vsk has been steadily releasing bangers on labels such as eartoground and recently perc trax.
both gentleman’s styles are blended flawlessly together in a masterful ep. reverb soaked sounds are effortlessly merged with powerful kicks and basslines. from the haunting atmosphere on “silent age” to the trademark vsk synthwork on the b-side, this special collaborative debut is one that we surely hope to to present again on planet rhythm!

after three years and ten eps, amsterdam s will & ink label offers up its first full length from label favorite yaleesa hall and is called woodall. it explores texture, space and sound design in fascinating ways. since 2014 yaleesa hall has released four eps on the label and has become known for breakbeat laced stripped-down techno. this debut album finds the producer indulging a less dance floor focussed version of his sound, and one that is better suited to the full length format. explaining that his tracks most often start as -sound structures and experiments- that then get reworked for the club, here they stay closer to their original forms. woodall is sound sculpture that is electronic and synthetic but also made of real world sounds that are all truly absorbing. comes in gatefold sleeve.

music from memorys final release of 2016 is an ep of works by a german trio formed in the city of wuppertal, in the late eighties. a one off and unique project, becker, stegmann and zeumer were asked to produce an album of recorded material after a string of successful concerts celebrating the work of local poet else lasker-schüler (1869–1945). tip. large!

2015 saw datassette in generous form, the original offal brought 100 tracks of alleged offcuts. while a rare few actually live up to this self-deprecation, it couldnt be a more misleading title. now, selected offal has been boiled down to a gravy-like substance for a vinyl release by the nice folks at shipwrec. after discussions with the artist, and suggestions from fans, seventeen prime cuts have been selected for the vinyl edition of offal, alongside a few brand new previously unheard nuggets and alternative versions. expect a buffet of delights. smooth electronica, abrasive funk, out-there acid experimentation, chip tune chicanery and everything in between from this chameleon of machine music.

patrick wade, better known as dead horse beats is a producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist living in montreal, canada. since the release of his first album in 2011, wade has garnered attention for his unique brand of hazy, rhythmic, soul-styled creations, and energetic live spectacles featuring a slough of live instrumentation, electronics and guest performers. after the release 2015 s acclaimed single people lp and a brief stint with london s black butter records, dhb partnered with brooklyn based bastard jazz recordings for his premiere vinyl pressing - the fall 2016 release of bad hopes ep. bad hopes is the culmination of a new, fully realized sonic direction for dead horse beats, inspired by the sounds of the montreal scene in which dhb is embedded, equal parts glittering r&b, and undeniable deep house inspired soundscapes, fusing fully on bad hopes, alongside friends and collaborators frase (vocals on she said) and jason simpkin (additional production and instrumentation throughout) dhb blends his voice and lyrics with bassy grooves, lush synths and sharp, angular percussion into a cohesive, rolling soundscape.

the holy grail of brazilian music. a wicked afro psychedelic album. a joy to listen to from the beginning to the end! highly recommended! tip! pedro dos santos, born in rio in 1919, was a percussionist virtuoso, composer and inventor of instruments that apparently included oddities such as the tamba (electrified bamboo drum) and the mouth berimbau whistle. nicknamed perdo sorongo after the rhythm he invented, that features throughout krishnanda. a highly spiritual man who was regarded as a philosopher by many.

being heavily championed by the likes of a:rpia:r, cezar, priku and barac, it is now the time to share these precious cuts with everyone. after critically acclaimed debut albums, ada kaleh (dene descris lp) and sepp (timpuriu lp) dive even deeper into rhythm and sound with personal interpretations of an outstanding late night chicago gem from minus & ion, originally released on the models adult central, a close friend and collaborator. crafting pieces of the the original sounds, on the a side ada kaleh delivers an introspective, minimalistic version of the original, while the b side takes us on a darker, ever evolving journey, courtesy of sepp. bucharest based photographer felicia simion masterfully captures the natural and organic soundscapes with a wonderful visual interpretation.

mono junk’s cult label dum records is back with a new five track various artists ep that again packs a vital punch. he appears himself along with some fellow legends of the scene. first up, morpholgy is a consistent performer who has continued to serve up quality electro since 2009 and here serves up a hot new piece. ‘vector plant’ is busy and industrial, slick and metallic as it unfolds and burrows deep into your veins. then comes the a2, irwin berg featuring freestyle man (aka finnish moodmusic boss sasse aka klas lindblad) with a track made in 1995 and never released before. this pair worked together and made a cult electro record for sähkö recordigs in 1998 and this one is just as impactful. it is frosty and frazzled, slow motion but high impact and full of distorted lines and heavy drums. next is mr velcro fastener who were the first kings of electro to come out of finland and between 1999 and 2006 were famous all over the world. their brand new cut ‘almost there’ is a deep one that is riddled with bleeping melodies and has smeared chords bringing a sci-fi feel. then it is mono junk’s turn to dive into the vaults with an unreleased track from 2005. ‘feeling or destroy’ is a physical number with crashing hits and snaking, gurgling bass that is dark and dystopian. last of all comes irwin berg with mono junk as new york city survivors. says the dum boss, “our unreleased track here was made after the new york city survivors – static light cd 2002” and it is a turbo charged track with screwed up grinding bass, icy hi hat rhythms and menace in its grooves.

after releasing on george fitzgerald s manmakemusic label and hosting parties featuring djs such as avalon emerson, breach, christian loffler, dauwd, frits wentink, locked groove, tom demac and xxxy, asa 808 and his toys friends are dropping the first 12 inch on their own label. this young club collective is all about bringing friends of forward-thinking electronic music together and supporting young boundary-pushing electronic artists. on their first vinyl release, the classically trained musician and producer asa 808 (aka hasta la otra mexico!) delivers three heavy, melodic and ominous techno cuts.

cocytus, meaning -the river of wailing“, is a river in the underworld in greek mythology. it flows into the river acheron, across which is the underworld, the mythological abode of the dead. dante describes cocytus in inferno as being the home of traitors and those who committed acts of complex fraud. the river of wailing is divided into four arms: antenora, after antenor from the iliad, traitors to country. judecca, after judas iscariot, traitors to masters and benefactors. caina, after the biblical cain, traitors to blood relatives. ptolomea, after ptolemy, governor of jericho, who murdered his guests (1 maccabees), traitors to guests. based on these assumptions cot labelhead hours crafted three pensive tracks, one of which was reinterpreted by brian sanhaji.

after a succession of new signings including recloose, tom trago and paul woolford - aus music return to their original roster and roll out another solid 3-track ep from label mainstay huxley who - in a monumental pairing - enlists the help of chicago legend roy davis jr. with a grand total of 8 aus records under his belt including his lauded lp blurred - huxley continues to return with a sound that typifies the label - intricate dance that music that packs power and emotion in equal measures. the rag & bone ep kicks off with do you feel me - a track that seed roy davis jr. and huxley meld moody synths with a tough, rattling low-end. a striking vocal runs over subtle flecks of acid and bending melodies that make for a pensive trip before weapon 3 dials carl craig-esque tension with rough, tribal drums and razor sharp sweeps. the dub of weapon 3 then mellows the tone of the original and rounds off a varied pack of dance floor bombs.

after last years legohead ep which featured on fabric 085 mix cd, fatdog returns this time to his own label. with this is how i feel we get a bumper selection of sun soaked stylings with dub touches chugging along nicely with the type of shuffling slo-mo rhythms that he is becoming known for. flip leans into funkier old school & electro territories, conjuring up slightly darker moods yet still keeping within the fat dog flavour, ending with a flip from d train - keep on, to great effect.

boot & tax are back. after two 12inches for optimo trax and an album on optimo music they return to optimo trax with their first new music of the year, just before it ends. four tracks of spangled, idiosyncratic, woozily spacious and slightly off kilter music that could only have been made by these two milanese maestros. as ever on optimo trax a quadruple a side where all tracks share equal billing.
